Who’s playing?

Gamification and Game-Based Learning are two distinct pedagogical approaches, both of which improve teaching and learning by incorporating game elements into the classroom. As language teachers, our main goal is to boost learning by adding particular elements of gamification or GBL which can inspire our students.

How can I gamify education in my classroom?  How is Gamification different from Game-Based Learning (GBL)? Do games really help our students learn? What are the elements of a well-designed language learning game?  Can gamification lead to better group cooperation in the language classroom? How can teachers incentivize students to perform creative tasks when learning a new language?  How do players like to engage? We will look at concepts such as intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, distributed content delivery, competence and the importance of autonomy in language learners through the game theory framework.

We will share some strategies and lesson ideas regarding both gamification and Game-Based Learning. We will also have a practical hands-on fun language games session for primary and secondary students. No time to get bored!

Bring your technological devices (tablets, laptops, phones) so that you we all start gamifying our language classroom. There will be also time to exchange ideas and games that have already worked in your classroom. Games are fun!
