Supporting Boys

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

There is a growing body of research and advocacy that highlights the depth of emotions developing within boys and of their complex systems of social networks and supports. There is also a lot of anecdotal evidence of struggling boys who don't feel supported and may not feel able to access their emotions, often acting out, enacting confrontational relationships, and potentially using unhealthy coping strategies.

This talk will focus on sharing ideas and resources for both teachers and parents of boys, allowing for a growth in trust and confidence to guide boys towards their best selves, to learn from mistakes, and to have to courage to be vulnerable in a culture has high expectations for boys and men.

International schools are often poised to support boys uniquely as our communities are diverse and our framework allows for a thoughtful empathetically critical examination of perspectives. That said, we are also all very busy and may not have the opportunity to focus enough on topics of well being. While I will gather relevant resources and support materials, we will also share what's working for us, what we are passionate about, and what we can do to keep this conversation alive!

Outcomes:
Participants can take away ideas and resources for both teachers and parents of boys, allowing for a growth in trust and confidence to guide boys towards their best selves.

Resources: Please freely share these resources and contribute to both conversation and growth - https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1rk4TkX5bL7zO0LMo4oO8RaXvYW8au2BO?usp=sharing
