How can secondary teachers intentionally create middle and high school classes that are simultaneously challenging and integrate academic, social, and emotional learning? Students thrive in classrooms that embrace developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive teaching and, at the same time, foster a relational approach to learning. We will explore social-emotional learning competencies into four classroom learning domains that foster students' capacity to be self-directed, independent learners and help teachers naturally and immediately integrate them.
